Welcome to Network Services!
The School of Chemical Sciences maintains a 1700+ node VLAN to support the school's research, academic, and administrative missions. Devices on the network range from scientific instrumentation to UNIX, PC and Macintosh hardware.
The SCS network is supported from the wall jack to the campus backbone. Individual computers are the responsibility of the research group or administrative unit. Local administrative services and support can be obtained from the computer support group at the regular facility recovery rate.
All computers, especially laptops, must be checked by CANS-ES staff before they will be allowed on the SCS network. CANS-ES will install anti-virus software and apply patches at no charge for the initial setup of Windows or Apple computers new to the SCS network. Please call us to discuss your UNIX computers. Please see the SCS AntiVirus Policy.
SCS and the Campus Firewall
To increase network security and decrease the proliferation of worm like virii,
Research Groups have the option of placing their computers behind the campus
firewall. Participation is voluntary but highly recommended for all computers
that do not need to accept incoming connections. Please select the firewall
button on the left for more information.
